Black Hippy

For a couple of weeks I have focused on our South African Street Culture Fashion and the people behind the brands who interpret our street culture through fashion. We have discovered more about brands such as Butan , The Uniconz as well as the Kreative Beings and with each brand being unique they all aim to manipulate our culture through their garments.

However although we have focused on the Fashion in our Street Culture, I thought it would be interesting to speak to someone else who is not so much involved in our fashion however who interprets what’s going on in our streets through media.  This week we speak to Mpho Lehlongwa who is also known as ‘Black Hippy’. Mpho is in the streets all the time and he works within an industry that also plays a part in influencing our street culture, he believes that although there are levels to our street culture, it is really healthy with talent. “There are a lot of fresh ideas coming up in terms of music and fashion; even corporates are looking into investing in the culture. It has become more than just the streets but has turned into a whole movement.”  Mpho Is media; having made his contribution in the media industry through Music Videos, Content Producing and currently Journalism by being an Entertainment Journalist for the online Magazine ‘Live Mag’.

Although he is not necessarily involved in the fashion industry, because we have been focusing on Fashion and we are all about Style, we also find out what is Mphos take on fashion and find out a little bit more about his personal style.

Look out for Tomorrows post which will be all about Mpho the ‘Black Hippy’ and his interesting journey in the media industry.
